BAY CITY, Mich. — Tyler Molesworth (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) of the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2009-10 season. The 6-4 guard tallied 50 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists as the Huskies played three tough Division II teams on the road.
Molesworth had a team-high 17 points in his first game as a Husky—a 70-68 loss at Minnesota Duluth (Nov. 15). The junior transfer, who played two seasons at Mesa (Ariz.) Community College, tied for team-high honors in points with 13 in a 62-56 victory over Minnesota State Moorhead last Friday (Nov. 20). Molesworth rounded out his first week with a 20-point performance in a 75-62 setback at No. 10-ranked St. Cloud State.
Molesworth shot 48.3 percent from the field including 52.9 percent from 3-point range on the week. He currently leads the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game.
Michigan Tech will continue its tough non-conference schedule with two games at the Southern Indiana Tournament this weekend. The Huskies face host Southern Indiana Friday (Nov. 27) at 8:30 p.m. (ET) and No. 1-ranked Bellarmine Saturday (Nov. 28) at 6:15 p.m. (ET).
