LILBURN, Ga. — The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team retained its top ranking in the USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Huskies were the preseason No. 1 in both the USA TODAY ESPN poll and the Division II Bulletin poll.
Tech opened its season 3-0 with three impressive victories. The Huskies won 85-68 at Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 15 to start the 2009-10 campaign. They then traveled to Springfield, Mo., where they defeated Missouri Western 67-37 and Texas A&M Commerce 71-51 in neutral site contests. Michigan Tech’s three wins came by an average margin of 22.3 points.
Michigan Tech is the only Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team in the top 25. Both Grand Valley State and Hillsdale dropped out of the poll after suffering losses in the opening week.
There are four other Midwest Region teams nationally-ranked—No. 10 Indianapolis, No. 15 Northern Kentucky, No. 19 Quincy and No. 20 Drury.
Michigan Tech will not play this week. The next action for the Huskies will come Dec. 3 vs. Wayne State.
