Mike Axford is in his 20th season as head coach of the Michigan Tech men’s tennis program.  He was appointed to the position in August of 1987 and is the fifth head coach since the sport’s inception at MTU in 1950.       

Axford, who was selected the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1990 and 2002, has also served as the women’s tennis coach at Michigan Tech since 1989.  A 1983 graduate of Michigan Technological University, Axford was a prep standout in both track and cross country at Melvindale (Mich.) High School, earning letters in both sports for three consecutive years. 

Born June 13, 1960, Axford is also an instructor at the University along with his duties as men’s and women’s tennis coach.
