HOUGHTON, Mich. — The stars aligned at the Student Development Complex
Gymnasium tonight as two Michigan Tech basketball seniors — one from
the women’s team and one from the men’s team — both reached the
1,000-point milestone in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader.
Catherine Rottier (Seymour, Wis.) and Tim Strom (Marquette, Mich.) —
fifth-year seniors who both wear number 21 — helped their teams to
victory.
Rottier’s 1,000th point came on a free throw during the first half and
was part of a 16-point night as the Huskies defeated Wayne State,
67-52. The 5-8 guard needed 104 career games to reach the milestone.
She now sits at 1,007 for her career as the 16th player in school
history to reach 1,000 points.
Strom’s 1,000th point occurred on a 3-pointer in the second half as
Michigan Tech ousted Wayne State by a 67-48 score. The 6-7 forward
finished the contest with 23 points — his fourth 20-point game of the
season. Strom needed 22 points in his 94th career game tonight to reach
the milestone. He is the 21st Michigan Tech men’s player to reach the
1,000-point plateau.
Michigan Tech’s women (14-3 overall record, 7-1 GLIAC) and men (9-7
overall, 4-4 GLIAC) will return to action Saturday (Jan. 19) vs. league
rival Hillsdale.
