DULUTH, Minn. - Andrea Metz won the 1,500 (4:52.88) and 3,000 (10:41.87) for the Michigan Tech track and field team at the UMD Bulldog Open Thursday (April 18). Lauren Wiza also finished third in the 3,000 (11:18.17).
“It was nice to see some runners, specifically Andrea and Lauren, set personal bests today,” said head coach Margot Hutchins.
Erin Ballun posted three top five finishes on the day. She won the high jump (5-3), finished third in the long jump (15-10.75) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (29.70).
“Erin really tested herself as she competed in eight events in preparation for the heptathlon,” said Hutchins.
The 4x200 relay team of Ballun, Lindsay Fry-Schallhorn, Beth Geerer and Stephanie Schiel, also set a new school record in 1:59.22. It was the first time that the Huskies ever competed in the event.
In the women’s javelin, Sam Stam finished fourth (87-8) and Lauren Wiza finished fifth (81-10).
Fry-Schallhorn finished fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:09.86) and Geerer finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.19).
The 4x400 meter relay team of Schiel, Geerer, Kate Hagenbuch and Dani Holmgren finished third in 4:21.36.
No team scores were kept.
