DULUTH, Minn. - Robert Haynes was the top finisher for the Michigan Tech track and field team winning both the 100 (10.72) and 200 (21.82) at the UMD Bulldog Open Thursday (April 17). Kevin Kayser also won the high jump with a leap of 6-4.

“The conditions and facilities were excellent. Rob’s performances were good but not quite what we were looking for,” said head coach Margot Hutchins.

Tom Arttus also fared well in the sprints finishing tied for second in the 100 (11.26) and second in the 200 (22.80).

The 4x200 relay team of Arttus, Haynes, Aaron Addison and Jason Foster also set a new school record in 1:34.27. It was the first time that the Huskies ever competed in the event.

Alex Weldum finished third in the 400 (53.34) while Addison was one spot back in fourth (52.98). Weldum also finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (17.68). Josh Jensen ran a time of 1:03.45 for a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles.

Stuart Kramer led the charge in the distance events, finishing second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:23.76. He also finished fifth in the 1,500 (4:10.61) after being edged out at the line by teammate Ian Connick (4:10.07).

Ken Gilkerson posted the fifth fastest time in school history to finish third in the 800 (1:53.72). Aaron Knopp was one spot back in 1:57.29.

“The 800 was a great for Ken and Aaron. I am looking forward to what they can do at Gina Relays,” said Hutchins. “Ian also had a good race in the 1,500. With some experience he will be a real competitor.”

Jacob Hill led a quartet of Huskies in the 5,000 to finish third in 16:31.59. Kevin Bence was fourth (17:03.01), Scott Ketner was fifth (17:14.13) and Luke Wyzlic was sixth (18:33.04).

In the men’s javelin, Foster finished fourth (135-10) and Aaron Addison finished fifth (133-0). Eric Dean set a season best in the pole vault (12-6) to finish tied for fifth.

Knopp, Zach Carlson, Gilkerson and Aaron Cedergren teamed up to finish second in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:32.07.
