MIDLAND, Mich. — The Michigan Tech men’s tennis team went 0-2 in opening day action at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Huskies, who are seeded seventh in the tournament, lost 5-0 to second seed Ferris State and 5-1 to six seed Lake Superior State.

In this morning’s opening round match against Ferris, Tech’s number one doubles duo of Brett Girard and Matt Tronnes posted the closest finish. They lost, 8-6, to Bulldogs Akshay Chellappa and Corey Banghart. FSU also won both other doubles points before claiming straight set wins at number three and five singles to wrap up the team decision. The other four singles matches remained unfinished.

In the afternoon match, Tech picked up a team point at number two doubles as Brandon Ellefson and Alan Parenteau posted a 9-8 (0) tiebreaker victory. At number three doubles, Justin Foley and Tim Viola battled to an 8-5 setback.

The first three singles matches completed all went in favor of Lake Superior State. All three matches were very close, but it allowed the Lakers to secure their team victory.

Michigan Tech (3-17) will wrap up play in the GLIAC Tournament tomorrow (April 20) with a tilt vs. eight seed Findlay. The seventh-place match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
