HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech head men’s basketball coach Kevin Luke has announced the addition of Anthony Katona to the Huskies roster. The Negaunee, Mich., product will attend and play basketball at Tech beginning this fall.
Katona, a 6-2, 185-pound guard, averaged 13 points and five rebounds in helping Negaunee High School to a 25-1 record and the state semifinals in 2007-08. He was named all-state by both the Detroit Free Press and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. He also earned All-Upper Peninsula and All-Mid-Peninsula Conference accolades.
“We’re excited to have Anthony make a decision to come to Michigan Tech,” said Luke. “He’s a smart player with a great work ethic. He’s an excellent 3-point shooter and a tough defender. We’re very pleased to have him as a member of our 2008-09 recruiting class.”
Katona joins earlier signees — 6-2 point guard T.J. Brown (Oak Park, Mich./Berkley), 6-3 guard Matt Esters (Detroit, Mich./Divine Child), 6-7 forward Mike Hojnacki (Milwaukee, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) and 6-8 forward Nate Kindt (Alpena, Mich.) — as part of Tech’s incoming group of freshman student-athletes.
