SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Sophomore Brian Stetter won the men’s eight-kilometer race to lead Michigan Tech today at the Pre-GLIAC Meet hosted by Lake Superior State. He finished in a time of 26:31.47.
The Huskies had six runners in the top-nine to finish with a perfect score of 15. Ferris State finished second with 57 points Lake Superior State in third with 68 points.
“I was pretty pleased with how our men’s team ran today,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “We ran a smart race and we ran together.”
Other finishers for the men included senior Stuart Kramer in fourth place, sophomore Ian Connick in fifth, sophomore Zach Carlson in sixth, junior Ken Gilkerson in eighth and sophomore Colin Singleton in ninth.
Senior Laura Kangas was the top finisher for Tech in the women’s six-kilometer race in 23:29.38, finishing fifth overall.
Katie Scott of Lake Superior State won the women’s race in 22:37.66.
Other top finishers for the Huskies included sophomore Christina Mishica in seventh, junior Jenna Klein in eighth, junior Elizabeth Quinley in 14th, freshman Lauren Rantala in 21st and freshman Bria Kask in 23rd.
“The women’s team has a little bit of work to do to run a smarter race,” said Haggenmiller. “We need to work on holding pace at the start of the race so we have more left at the end of the race.”
Ferris State won the women’s race with a team score of 44. Northern Michigan finished second with 48 followed by Tech with 49 points. Lake Superior State fourth with 84 points.
