KENOSHA, Wis. - Michigan Tech sophomore Brian Stetter finished fourth at the Midwest Collegiate Open Saturday (Sept. 20) to propel the men’s team to a third place finish overall. Stetter finished the eight-kilometer course in 26:22.

Wis. LaCrosse won the men’s meet with 40 points, Edinboro was second with 78 and Tech was third with 103 points in the 16 team competition.

“I was really happy with the way that the men raced today,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “I was happy to see success from top to bottom and have our team turn in a solid result. Our performance today shows that we are strong team.”

Sophomore Ian Connick, who spent most of the race in the top ten, faded to 14th to finish in 26:46. Senior Stuart Kramer rounded out the top-three for Tech finishing in 27:36.

Senior Laura Kangas was the top finisher in the women’s five-kilometer course in a time of 19:52.

Junior Jenna Klein finished 25th in 20:00 and sophomore Christina Mischica was third for the Huskies and 45th overall in 20:31.

The women’s team finished ninth out of 17 teams with 218 points. Cedarville claimed the women’s team title with a team score of 24.

“I wanted to see our women’s team finish a little faster today,” said Haggenmiller. “Many of the women were suffering from the extreme heat however.”

The Huskies will return to action next Saturday (Sept. 27) at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.
