HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches after defeating Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference newcomer Tiffin, 3-0, Friday (Oct. 3). The Huskies (12-5, 7-2) hit .214 in the match compared to just .130 by the Dragons (10-8, 1-7).
The Huskies won the first two sets (25-15, 25-23) and then rallied from a 14-20 deficit in the third set to claim a 25-23 win and the match.
“Our five-match winning streak is giving us more and more confidence. This will help us down the stretch knowing that we can win” said head coach
Krista Mikesch.
The Dragons held an eight to seven advantage in blocks but the Huskies finished with a 62 to 48 advantage in digs.
“We got out blocked tonight but our defense stepped up and did its job digging balls,” said Mikesch.
Freshman
Kristine Sexton finished with a match-high 11 kills to lead the Huskies in kills for the first time this season. She also finished with two blocks.
Junior
Veronica Armstrong recorded a double-double in the match finishing with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Wiza accounted tallied four of Tech’s nine service aces in the match.
The Dragons were led by sophomore Brooke Bernabei who finished with 11 kills and 10 digs.
The Huskies will host Wayne State in GLIAC action next Friday (Oct. 10) at 7:00 p.m.
