HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech sophomore forward
Jordan Baker scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the Huskies 2-1 loss to Alaska Anchorage Saturday (Nov. 1). Tech (2-4-0, 1-3-0) finished the game 1-7 on the power play and Anchorage (5-2-1, 2-1-1) was 0-2.
“We made too many mistakes tonight that led to goals,” said head coach
Jamie Russell. “They were able to capitalize on our mistakes.”
Josh Lunden opened the scoring for the Seawolves at 5:24 of the second period tucking a shot from the slot under a diving
Rob Nolan. Kevin Clark also assisted on the shot.
Baker appeared to have tied the game at 1-1 with 12 minutes remaining in the second period but upon review the goal was disallowed because the players momentum propelled the puck into the goal.
Tommy Grant, who scored Anchorage’s two goals the night before, extended the lead to 2-0 with his sixth goal of the season at 3:42 of the third period.
Baker would eventually score his first power play goal of the season at 12:37 of the final frame. A pair of juniors,
John Kivisto and
Drew Dobson, assisted on the goal.
The Huskies played nearly two minutes with an empty net but were unable to score the equalizer.
Bryce Christianson made 29 saves on 30 shots in his third win of the season for the Seawolves.
Senior
Rob Nolan (1-4-0) made 15 saves on 17 shots for the Huskies.
Michigan Tech will play at Wisconsin Friday (Nov. 7). Game time is set for 8:07 p.m.
