HOUGHTON, Mich. — The competitive drive never dies. At least that’s true with former Michigan Tech women’s basketball players. The Black Team defeated the White Team 56-52 in tonight’s alumni game as 24 former student-athletes donned Huskies jerseys for a little bragging rights.

Both teams played to win, and the White made things interesting with a late run to get within 54-52. The Black Team iced the game at the free throw line.

“It’s a blast,” said Valerie Leveille (lettered 1983-86), who took part in the alumni game five years as well. “It’s so much fun to see the players from your own era and meet the younger ones who weren’t here five years ago.”

Allison (Bailey) Bottoms (1997-00) led all scorers with 20 points and was the only player in double figures for the Black. Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Famer Carie (Pejka) Tull (1988-92) paced the White squad with 16 points.

In all, 18 of the 24 players scored at least a point.

“It’s been great to have the former players back on campus,” said head coach John Barnes. “The camaraderie between the veterans and the new alum is fun to see and makes for a fun weekend.”
