LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Tech volleyball team posted a convincing 3-0 win (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) over Southern Indiana to close play in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament. The Huskies (11-11) hit a season-high .396 in the match thanks to 50 kills on 106 attempts with only eight errors. Across the net, the Screaming Eagles (11-12) finished with a .167 hitting percentage.
“Today was a good win for us,” said head coach Orlando Gonzalez. “After playing a pair of tough matches yesterday I was really pleased to see us come out and take care of business against Southern Indiana.”
Tech dominated both offensively and defensively in the match. The Huskies held a strong 50-35 advantage in kills and a 48-32 tilt in assists. Defensively Tech finished with 49 digs to the Screaming Eagles’ 45 as well as a 9-2 advantage in blocks.
Senior Alicia Schneider led the Huskies with a .636 hitting percentage (7-11) with zero errors. The Janesville, Wis., native added five digs and four block assists.
Senior Kaari Nevanen finished the match one dig shy of a double-double recording 13 kills and nine digs. The Duluth, Minn., native added one service ace and one block assist.
Sophomore Kristine Sexton tallied a match-high 14 kills and sophomore Kathleen Storm recorded a match-high six block assists.
Freshman Madeline Haben turned in another stellar day at the setter position, finishing with 40 assists, a personal season-high for a three-set match this season.
Courtney Bealer led Sourthern Indiana with eight kills.
Tech will play its first home match in nearly a month when it hosts Lake Superior State Friday (Oct. 23). Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
