KENOSHA, Wis. - Michigan Tech junior
Brian Stetter earned Midwest All-Region honors for the first time in his career with an 11th place finish at the Midwest Regional Meet in Kenosha, Wis., Saturday (Nov. 7). The St. Clair Shores, Mich., native covered the 10-kilometer course in 33:09 but was the first finisher not to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
“I was really proud of Brian today,” said head coach
Joe Haggenmiller. “He ran a really smart race. He went out controlled and then even pushed the leaders. But when it came to the end he came up a little short.”
A pair of juniors came across the line next for the Huskies.
Colin Singleton finished 58th (35:19) and
Oskar Lund was 68th (35:37).
Senior
Ken Gilkerson, who was competing in his final collegiate cross country race, finished 76th (36:03). Freshman Jonathan Kilpela rounded out the scoring for the Huskies finishing 80th (36:13).
Overall the men’s team finished 11th of 19 teams with 293 points.
Sophomore Tyler Emmorey finished first in 32:22 to lead Grand Valley State to the team title with a score of 38.
On the women’s side, freshman Amanda Halonen crossed the line first for the Huskies finishing the six-kilometer course in 58th (24:13). Senior Alison Springer-Wilson was two spots back finishing 60th in 24:16.
Juniors
Christina Mishica and
Jill Smith finished 63rd (24:28) and 74th (24:38) for Tech, and senior
Jenna Klein completed the scoring for the team with her 81st finish in 24:47.
The team finished 12th of 19 teams with 336 points.
Ferris State junior Christina Muir won the women’s race in 21:34, but Grand Valley State claimed the team title with a score of 26.
“Both the men’s and women’s teams performed a lot better today than they did at GLIAC’s. I was happy to see that improved among GLIAC team’s and the women were able to beat Northern Michigan,” said Haggenmiller.
The season is complete for both the men’s and women’s teams.
