NEW SEASON Michigan Tech faces Finlandia Tuesday (Nov. 10) in an exhibition game. It will be the Huskies’ final tuneup before officially opening its season Sunday (Nov. 15) at Minnesota Duluth. Tech will start its 2009-10 campaign with five non-conference contests before 22 straight GLIAC games to end the regular season. Tuesday’s game is the only home date for Michigan Tech until its league opener Dec. 3.
HOJNACKI TOP RETURNING SCORER Sophomore Mike Hojnacki (Milwaukee, Wis./Eisenhower) is Tech’s top returning scorer. The 6-7 forward averaged 7.9 points per game and also led the team in 3-point percentage at .400. Hojnacki’s 213 points as a rookie were the most by a Michigan Tech freshman since Josh Buettner (393) and Jason Marcotte (353).
BEEFED UP INSIDE PRESENCE Redshirt freshman Nate Kindt (Ossineke, Mich./Alpena) and true freshman Ali Haidar (Windsor, Ont./Forster) bring added size to the Huskies frontcourt. Kindt comes in at 6-9, 245 pounds. Haidar is listed at 6-7, 240. The two join Chris Baugh (Detroit, Mich./De Porres) at 6-6, 230 to give Michigan Tech the interior size it hasn’t had in a while.
THE STORY ON MOLESWORTH Junior Tyler Molesworth (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) will play his first game in a Husky uniform Tuesday vs. Finlandia. The 6-4 shooting guard comes in with a little different perspective than most college students. Molesworth went on a two-year church mission in Brazil before attending Mesa Community College for two years. The 23-year-old is also married.
HEAD COACH KEVIN LUKE Kevin Luke begins his 16th year on the Michigan Tech bench as head coach. The school’s winningest skipper owns a career record of 274-160 (.631 winning percentage). He is a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year and was the 2002-03 NABC National Coach of the Year.
