This Week Michigan Tech will hit the road for just the second time this season when it plays at Minn.-Duluth this weekend (Nov. 13-14).
The Series Michigan Tech holds a 116-74-18 overall record against Minn.-Duluth and a 59-29-11 record against the Bulldogs in Duluth.
Playing the Best Four of Tech’s eight games this season have been against ranked opponents.
Husky to Watch Look for sophomore Brett Olson to make an impact when he returns to his hometown for a pair of games at Minn.-Duluth. The Superior, Wis., native currently leads the team with 10 points (four goals, six assists) and tallied one goal and one assist against the Bulldogs the last time the team was in Duluth. Olson currently leads the team and ranks tied for sixth in the league in points (4-6--10). His six assists rank tied for ninth in the league. Olson has scored both of the game-winning goals for Tech this season, tied for most by anyone in the WCHA. The UND series was the first this season in which sophomore Brett Olson did not register a point. His four-game point streak, tied for the longest of his career, also came to end.
Genoe in Goal Freshman Kevin Genoe has started the last four games for the Huskies. He currently ranks eighth in the league in save percentage (.911) and ninth in goals against average (2.93). His four straight starts are the most consecutive starts by a freshman since Michael-Lee Teslak started five straight from Feb. 25 to March 11, 2006.
Seigo Stepping Up Freshman Steven Seigo has made an immediate impact for the Huskies this season. The Edenwold, Saskatchewan, native recorded an assist for the fourth weekend in a row. He currently ranks tied for third in freshman scoring (0-6--6) and tied for sixth in scoring by defenseman in the WCHA.
Captain Gwilliam Senior Malcolm Gwilliam failed to register a point for just the second time this season in Friday night’s loss but recorded an assist on the team’s lone goal Saturday. He currently ranks second on the team and is tied for 11th in the league in points (5-4--9). Gwilliam’s five goals is tied for fourth in the league.
Coach Russell Jamie Russell has posted a 63-141-32 record in seven seasons leading the Huskies. He is currently tied with Bob Mancini for third place at Michigan Tech in coaching victories with 63. Herb Boxer, who was inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame last weekend (Nov. 7), currently ranks second with 66.
First Career Start Freshman Tommy Brown started his first career game for Michigan Tech in the Huskies 4-1 loss against North Dakota Saturday (Nov. 7).
Man Advantage Junior Jordan Baker has scored both of his goals this season on the power play.
First Goal Success Both of Michigan Tech’s wins this season have come after it scored the first goal of the third period.
Witt’s Return Freshman Evan Witt, who missed the previous three games due to illness, tallied his first career point, an assist, in his first game back against North Dakota on Nov. 6th.
Going to the Dog Pound Minn.-Duluth leads the nation in penalty minutes this season with 24.6 minutes per game. Michigan Tech has scored a power play goal in four of it’s eight games this season.
Deutschland Cup Former Michigan Tech forward Brett Engelhardt (2000-04) helped the U.S. team to a second place finish in the Deutschland Cup Nov. 6-8. The team, which had all three of its games end in a shoot out, finished with a 0-2-1-0 record.
Looking Ahead Michigan Tech will have next weekend (Nov. 20-21) off.
