Kevin Genoe made 48 saves on 50 shots to lead Michigan Tech to a 3-2 victory over No. 18 Minn.-Duluth in WCHA play Friday (Nov. 13). His 48 saves were the most by a Tech goalie since
Josh Robinson made 49 saves in a 6-5 overtime win against Minnesota on March 6, 2009.
The Huskies first goal came after freshman
Steven Seigo made a spin move around a Bulldog defender and then sent a pass over to sophomore
Brett Olson. Olson then found senior
Malcolm Gwilliam who scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season at 12:24 of the first period.
UMD answered with it’s first of two power play goals at 5:07 of the second period. Sophomore Jack Connolly was credited with the goal off assists from sophomore Mike Connolly and sophomores Brady Lamb.
The Bulldogs followed up with its second power play goal of the evening by freshman Mike Seidel at 4:31 of the third period.
But the Huskies answered right back thanks to freshman
Steven Seigo’s first career goal 34 seconds later. The Edenwold, Sask., native currently leads all freshman defenseman in the WCHA in points with eight (one goal, seven assists).
Sophomore
Seth Soley and senior
Ryan Bunger used some sharp passing in front of the UMD net to set-up senior
Eli Vlaisavljevich for the easy tap in. The goal at 14:07 was the third goal of his career and second in his last three games. Soley’s assist was the first point of his career.
Tech (3-6-0, 2-5-0) finished one-for-four on the powerplay and Duluth (6-4-1, 3-3-1) was two-for-four.
Sophomore Kenny Reiter (2-2-0) finished with 16 saves on 19 shots in the Bulldog loss.
Tech will look to complete the sweep of Duluth Saturday (Nov. 14).
