NEW SEASON
Michigan Tech opens its 2009-10 campaign Sunday (Nov. 15) at Minnesota Duluth. The Huskies, who will play 27 regular season games—all against NCAA Division II opponents, are looking for their first winning season since 2004-05. Tech has finished one game below .500 each of the last two years.

HOJNACKI TOP RETURNING SCORER
Sophomore Mike Hojnacki (Milwaukee, Wis./Eisenhower) is Tech’s top returning scorer. The 6-7 forward averaged 7.9 points per game and also led the team in 3-point percentage at .400. Hojnacki’s 213 points as a rookie were the most by a Michigan Tech freshman since Josh Buettner (393) and Jason Marcotte (353). In last Tuesday’s (Nov. 10) exhibition game vs. Finlandia, Hojnacki led the team in both points (23) and rebounds (eight).

FAMILIAR FOES
Michigan Tech and Minnesota Duluth have met at least once every year since 1983.  The Bulldogs own a 28-27 all-time series advantage, but the Huskies have won 14 of the last 18 matchups. UMD beat Tech 66-54 in Houghton in the squads’ only meeting of last year. Michigan Tech won by a 62-58 margin the last time they met in Duluth.

BEEFED UP INSIDE PRESENCE
Redshirt freshman Nate Kindt (Ossineke, Mich./Alpena) and true freshman Ali Haidar (Windsor, Ont./Forster) bring added size to the Huskies frontcourt. Kindt comes in at 6-9, 245 pounds. Haidar is listed at 6-7, 240. The two join Chris Baugh (Detroit, Mich./De Porres) at 6-6, 230 to give Michigan Tech the interior size it hasn’t had in a while.

THE STORY ON MOLESWORTH
Junior Tyler Molesworth (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) will play his first regular season game in a Husky uniform Sunday at Minnesota Duluth. The 6-4 shooting guard comes in with a little different perspective than most college students. The 23-year-old Molesworth went on a two-year church mission in Brazil before attending Mesa Community College for two years.

HEAD COACH KEVIN LUKE

Kevin Luke begins his 16th year on the Michigan Tech bench as head coach. The school’s winningest skipper owns a career record of 274-160 (.631 winning percentage). He is a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year and was the 2002-03 NABC National Coach of the Year.
