HUSKIES ENTER 2009-10 AS A UNANIMOUS NO. 1
Michigan Tech sits atop both the Division II Bulletin and USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches national preseason polls as it begins the 2009-10 campaign. The Huskies’ No. 1 ranking is the highest in program history. Tech finished 2008-09 ranked No. 8 after advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight.

SENIOR STARTING FIVE
Michigan Tech returns all but one player (Alicia Schneider) from last year’s squad that went 27-7 and won its second straight GLIAC North Division title. All five starters return, and all are seniors. Danae Danen (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), Tara Ferris (Hartland, Wis./Waukesha Catholic), Sarah Stream (Ishpeming, Mich./Westwood), Katie Wysocky (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Katie Zimmerman (Green Bay, Wis./East) have a combined 445 games of collegiate experience between them.

WYSOCKY AND STREAM GAIN PRESEASON HONORS FROM GLIAC
Senior Katie Wysocky has been named the 2009-10 GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year in voting by the league’s coaches. The 6-0 forward was a Daktronics All-America Third Team honoree last season. For the second straight year, Wysocky and fellow senior Sarah Stream were named to the Preseason All-GLIAC North Division Team.

TECH’S STREAK OF SUCCESS
Michigan Tech won 27 games a year ago—the 13th time in 33 years of women’s basketball the Huskies have reached the 20-win plateau. Tech has 21-year streak of winning seasons that started with 1988-89. Tech has accumulated a 451-169 record (72.7 pct.) over the last 21 seasons.

RECORDS IN JEOPARDY
Katie Wysocky enters 2009-10 with 847 career rebounds, needing just 20 more to surpass Dawn Zarling’s school-record total of 866. Wysocky, with 1,334 career points, also has a shot this season at the all-time Tech scoring mark of 1,856 by Jenny Postlewaite.
Danae Danen begins her senior season with 133 career blocked shots. With 14 more, she will eclipse Carie Pejka’s mark of 146 for tops all-time at Tech.
Sarah Stream dished out 159 assists in 2008-09 to run her career total to 329. The school record is 439, which is shared by Catherine Rottier and Dawn Zarling.

COACH JOHN BARNES

Michigan Tech seventh-year head coach John Barnes owns a 125-52 career coaching record and .706 winning percentage. Barnes has led the Huskies to two GLIAC North Division titles (2008-09 and 2007-08) and four NCAA Tournament appearances (2008-09, 2007-08, 2005-06, 2004-05). He has been named GLIAC Coach of the Year twice (2008-09 and 2005-06).
