INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Michigan Tech will make its second straight NCAA tournament after the NCAA announced Sunday (Nov. 15) that Tech was one of 64 teams selected for the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Tournament. Tech (14-14), the No. 8 seed, will face the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region Indianapolis (32-1) at Indianapolis Nov. 19. Match time is to be determined.
“We are really excited for the team to get this experience and are honored to be selected for the tournament,” said head coach
Orlando Gonzalez. “This is a great testament for the team’s hard work all season, and we are happy for all the players on the team, especially the seniors. Our goal is not just to make the tournament but to advance to the Sweet 16.”
Eight eight-team regionals will be played at on-campus sites. Regional competition will be single-elimination, best three-of-five game matches and will not include a third-place match. The winners of each of the eight regionals will advance to the finals, December 3-5, on the campus of a participating institution. Competition at the finals site will be single-elimination, best three-of-five game matches.
