THE STORY ON MOLESWORTH Junior Tyler Molesworth dropped in a team-high 17 points in his first career game as a Husky. The transfer from Mesa (Ariz.) Community College connected on 4-of-7 3-pointers in the game and had 13 of his 17 points in the second half to help the Huskies recover from a 12-point deficit. Molesworth also posted six rebounds and three assists in the contest.
HEARTBREAKER IN OPENER Michigan Tech battled back from a 12-point second-half deficit in last Sunday’s (Nov. 15) game at Minnesota Duluth. The Huskies had the lead in the final two minutes before UMD got good bounces on two straight field goal attempts—including the game-winner—for a 70-68 win.
RENEWING OLD ACQUAINTANCES Michigan Tech’s opponents this weekend are Minnesota State Moorhead and St. Cloud State. The Huskies have played them each at least more than 50 times but less than 10 times since Tech switched from the Northern Intercollegiate Conference to the GLIAC in 1980-81 season. Michigan Tech has a five-game winning streak over MSU Moorhead including a 76-59 score in the most recent meeting (11/21/2003). The Huskies also own a three-game streak over the other SCSU Huskies with a 63-56 coming in the latest matchup (11/26/05). See page 3 for complete series history.
BALANCED SCORING Ten different players saw action in Tech’s season opener last Sunday, and nine of them scored. Tyler Molesworth (17 points), Mike Hojnacki (12) and Don Fowler (10) all scored in double figures for the Huskies.
STRONG DEBUTS Four Tech freshman played significant minutes at Duluth in their first collegiate games. Matt Esters, T.J. Brown, Ali Haidar and Nate Kindt all played at least 17 minutes in the game and combined for 22 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists. Kindt had arguably the strongest performance with eight points and six rebounds.
HEAD COACH KEVIN LUKE Kevin Luke begins his 16th year on the Michigan Tech bench as head coach. The school’s winningest skipper owns a career record of 274-161 (.630 winning percentage). He is a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year and was the 2002-03 NABC National Coach of the Year.
