HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech women’s basketball coach John Barnes today announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Paige Albi (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Emily Harrison (Elk Mound, Wis.) will both attend and play women’s basketball for the Huskies beginning next fall.

Albi, a 5-10 guard, was an All-Big 8 Conference selection as both a junior and sophomore. She averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game for the Cardinals a year ago and is ranked 26th among the top 50 seniors in the state by Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Yearbook. Albi was also a standout volleyball player as she earned all-conference accolades each of the last two years.

“Paige is an extremely athletic guard who can play the one, two or three positions,” said Barnes. “She’s a very good shooter, but will really raise our level of athleticism on both ends of the floor.”

Harrison is a 6-4 center who is ranked as the nation’s 44th best post player in the class of 2010 by ESPN. She averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots per game in helping Elk Mound High School to a 14-7 record. She was named team most valuable player and All-Dunn St. Croix Conference First Team as a junior. Harrison also earned all-conference accolades multiple times in both volleyball and track and field.

“Emily will give us a great presence in the post with her height and athleticism,” said Barnes. “She’s an extremely good shot blocker and has nice scoring moves around the rim.”

Albi plans on majoring in biological sciences pre-medicine, while Harrison intends on majoring in chemical engineering.

“Both Paige and Emily will fit right in with our team and continue our high level of academic success. I really look forward to them joining our program.”

Michigan Tech, which is currently ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, will host Wayne State and Northwood in its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games of the year this week.
