BEMIDJI, Minn. - Tyler Scofield scored a pair of goals to lead the Bemidji State hockey team to a 2-1 win over Michigan Tech tonight (Nov. 29). The Huskies finished with a 79 to 32 advantage in total shots attempted in the game. The Beavers improve to 5-7-0 overall and the Huskies are 2-11-1.

“Similar to Friday night we controlled the play territorially and possession wise,” said head coach Jamie Russell. “We need to find a way to win the game on the scoreboard.”

Scofield recorded his first goal of the evening on the power play at 5:53 of the opening period. Matt Read sent a centering pass to Scofield who beat Tech net minder Josh Robinson for his fifth goal of the season. Brad Hunt also recorded an assist on the goal.

Eric Kattelus nearly tied the game just over two minutes into the second period when his shot rang off the pipe.

Jordan Baker scored a power play goal at 9:14 of the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Baker poked in the loose puck for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

“We did a good job getting pucks to the net. We got lots of shots on net and won the battles for the puck,” said Russell on the power play goal.

With less than 30 seconds remaining in the second period Scofield scored the game-winning goal on a 2-on-1 rush. He was assisted by Ian Lowe and Matt Dalton.

“A goal that late in the period certainly changes momentum going into the third period down 2-1 instead of 1-1,” said Russell.

Tech pulled Robinson with 1:47 remaining in the game for the extra attacker but could not score the equalizer.

Matt Dalton (5-4-0) made 26 saves on 27 shots in the Beaver win.

Robinson (1-3-0) recorded 14 saves on 16 shots in the loss.

Michigan Tech will host Denver next weekend (Dec. 5-6) in a pair of WCHA games at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
