DULUTH, Minn. - Michigan Tech freshman goalie Josh Robinson made 24 saves on 25 shots to earn a 1-1 tie on the road at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday (Dec. 13).

“We played good smart hockey,” said head coach Jamie Russell. “We took a good step last night. We talked about taking another step tonight. We did that but we are not where we want to be. The object is to win the game. We showed a lot of character bouncing back from one goal in a tough building. We got a big point tonight.”

For the second night in a row the game came down to special teams. Michigan Tech finished 1-4 on the man advantage and Duluth was 1-7.

The Bulldogs capitalized on a 5-on-3 advantage in the third period that was compounded when senior forward Ryan Angelow lost his stick. Sophomore defenseman Evan Oberg scored his fourth goal of the season at 6:59 of the third period off assists by senior defender Josh Meyers and sophomore winger Justin Fontaine.

Senior defender Geoff Kinrade nearly scored the equalizing goal for the Huskies when his shot rang off the post a minute later.

Tech was able to tie the game at 16:28 of the third period after junior defenseman Drew Dobson sent a shot pass from the blue line to freshman Brett Olson who tipped the puck in for his third goal of the season and his first on the power play.

The two teams played a defensive minded game to skate to the 1-1 overtime draw.

Junior Alex Stalock made 24 saves on 25 shots for the Bulldogs.

Michigan Tech will host Upper Peninsula foe Northern Michigan Dec. 19 at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Face off is set for 7:07 p.m.
