FINDLAY, Ohio — Michigan Tech defeated Findlay 7-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s tennis today. The win was the Huskies’ second straight on the road and improved their record to 6-8 overall.

For the second straight day, Tech swept the doubles points to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Tim Viola and Chris Verhulst posted an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, while Brandon Ellefson and Anders Sandholm paired for an 8-2 victory at No. 2. Brett Girard and Douglas Yossida were 8-4 winners at No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Tech won at each of the bottom four flights. Verhulst’s 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 was his team-leading 11th win of the season. Ellefson recorded a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4. Yossida and Alan Parenteau were also singles winners for Tech.

“We got out with three doubles wins and supported it with singles,” said head coach Mike Axford. “We fought hard in each match and got good results.

“This weekend should give us confidence in our next match.”

Michigan Tech will host Lake Superior State Friday (April 10) in its final regular season match of the season.
