ST. PAUL, Minn. - Michigan Tech junior Ken Gilkerson remained undefeated in the 800-meter run after winning the race in a school-record time of 1:52.50 at the Macalester Twilight Wednesday (April 22). The previous record of 1:54.4 was set by Pat Lencioni in 1987. Gilkerson has ran six of the ten fastest times in the event in school history.

“This meet gave us a great opportunity to compete against some quality competition, including a Big Ten opponent in the University of Minnesota,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “The facility was also top notch which helped our athletes compete at their best. I am ecstatic to see Kenny’s hard work pay off in his school record. He has set a new standard for the team in the distance events posting a provisional qualifying time as well in the event.”

Gilkerson joined Ian Connick, Aaron Knopp and Aaron Cedergren in the 4x400 relay which finished third in 3:26.08.

The Huskies also had a pair of sophomores post season-bests on the day. Connick finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:03.23) and Jake Hill was 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:35.55).

Sophomore Scott Kentner finished 14th in the 5,000 in a time of 16:35.70.

The team finished 13th out of 18 teams.
