HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Eli Vlaisavljevich, a member of the Michigan Tech hockey team, recently added two academic awards to his collection this spring. The Shoreview, Minn, native who already has been honored nationally with a Goldwater Scholarship, recently earned Michigan Tech’s Provost’s Award for Scholarship as well as ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team accolades.

Vlaisavljevich was the only Michigan Tech student to earn the Provost’s Award for Scholarship, which is given annually to a senior who best represents student scholarship. The student who wins this award is considered excellent not only by academic standards, but also for participation in research scholarship activity, levels of intellectual curiosity, creativity, and communication skills. The Provost’s Award is accompanied by a $1,000 scholarship.

A senior defenseman for the Huskies with a 4.0 grade point average in biomedical engineering, Vlaisavljevich garnered Academic All-District First Team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He was selected in District 4 (encompassing Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama) from among all NCAA Division I athletes in the sports of ice hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. As a member of the all-district first team, Vlaisavljevich is now on the national ballot to gain CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Vlaisavljevich played in 34 games on the Tech blueline and tallied one assist on the year. He is a two-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association Scholar-Athlete.
