HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech junior Ken Gilkerson was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV team. The Brooklyn Park, Minn., native ran a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:52.50 in the 800-meter run and holds a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering. He will also be placed on the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-American selection.
“This is a great honor for Kenny,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “He has worked really hard this season on the track as well as in the classroom.”
Gilkerson joins Chris Hammer of Grand Valley and Thomas Buxton of Tiffin as the only Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selections to the district team that is chosen from all non-division I athletes from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
To be eligible for the district team student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and completed two semesters at the institution.
