HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech head cross country and track and field coach Joe Haggenmiller has announced that Jonathon Kilpela of Atlantic Mine, Mich., and Amanda Halonen of South Lyon, Mich., have both signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Huskies during the 2009-10 season.

Kilpela, a 2009 graduate of Jeffers High School, was named the Copper Country Conference Most Valuable Player for both cross country and track and field. He has a five-kilometer personal best of 17:03. Kilpela is the third generation to attend Michigan Tech. His grandfather, father and four brothers all attended. He is the son of Dan and Marja Kilpela.

Halonen, a 2009 graduate of Brighton High School, was a four-time state qualifier in track and field and a three time state qualifier in cross country. She holds a five-kilometer personal best of 18:58. She is the daughter of Timothy, who also attended Michigan Tech, and Elaine Halonen.

“We look forward to both of these athletes joining our teams and immediately contributing to our team scoring,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller.
