NEW ORLEANS, La. - Michigan Tech junior Ken Gilkerson was named to the 2009 United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Div. II Men's All-Academic Track and Field Team. The Brooklyn Park, Minn., native ran a school record and NCAA
provisional qualifying time of 1:52.50 in the 800-meter run and holds a
4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering. Gilkerson was also named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Cross Country and Track Field Third Team by the College
Sports Information Directors of America early this year.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
Gilkerson was one of 29 athletes from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to be named to the team, which was the most by any conference.
