MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior
Henna Riikonen-Purtsi posted her best finish in a Michigan Tech uniform after finishing third in the 10-kilometer classic at the Central Super Tour Sunday (Jan. 24). She finished in a time of 31:06.
Fellow senior
Elizabeth Quinley also turned in an excellent race finishing one spot behind in 31:10 and senior
Jenna Klein finished 10th in 31:46.
“Our women skied a really smart race today,” said head coach
Joe Haggenmiller. “I am pleased to see them fighting with the other top women from our region.”
The men’s team had two skiers finish in the top-10 of the 15-kilometer classic. Senior
Oskar Lund was fifth (38:32) and sophomore
Jesse Smith was 10th (39:52).
Senior Jesse Land finished 15th (40:40) and freshman
Luke Gesior was 17th (40:55).
“Our guys did not have their best race today. Many of them worked a little too hard to gain position after the mass start.”
Both the men’s and women’s teams finished third out of nine teams and combined they finished third of 11 teams.
The Nordic ski teams will continue competition on the Super Tour in Cable, Wis., Jan. 30-31.
