HOUGHTON, Mich. - Senior
Oskar Lund won his fourth race of the season to lead the Michigan Tech men’s Nordic ski team to a second place finish at the NCAA Regionals at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center Saturday (Feb. 20). He covered the 10-kilometer classic course in 29:43 and earned all-region honors for his performance.
“We skied pretty well today but unfortunate for us Northern Michigan was a little bit faster,” said head coach
Joe Haggenmiller. “We will look to improve upon today’s performance tomorrow in the freestyle race.”
Tech had two other men earn all-region honors. Senior
Jesse Lang finished seventh in a time of 30:29 and sophomore
Jesse Smith crossed the line ninth in 30:36.
Senior
Henna Riikonen-Purtsi earned all-region honors for the women’s team thanks to her fourth place finish. She covered the five-kilometer course in 17:08.
Senior Liz Quinley narrowly missed all-region honors after she finished 11th (18:03).
Other notable finishes for the Huskies include senior
Jenna Klein finishing 18th and sophomore
Christina Mishica in 22nd (18:30).
The men finished second out of eight teams while the women were three of nine.
Both teams to close out the weekend with the freestyle race on Sunday (Feb. 21).
