ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Michigan Tech out shot No. 16 St. Cloud State, 37-33, but was unable to score as it fell 3-0 in the WCHA road contest on Feb. 23.

“We played really well tonight. We just couldn’t get a break,” said head coach Jamie Russell.

Michigan Tech held a 15-8 advantage in shots in the first period but it was St. Cloud State that found the net first. Michigan Tech junior goalie Rob Nolan made a save on a shot by sophomore Andreas Nodl but was caught on the opposite post as junior John Swanson put away the rebound. Freshman Garrett Roe also picked up an assist on the power play goal at 19:49.

The Black and Gold had an opportunity to even the score after SCSU was called for a five minute major and game misconduct for a check from behind just two minutes into the second period. Tech was unable to score before it was whistled 45 seconds later for a check from behind and a game misconduct.

St. Could State capitalized again on a rebound after junior John Swanson poked the puck past a diving Nolan for his fifth goal of the season. Senior Matt Stephenson and senior Aaron Brocklehurst each assisted on the even strength goal at 10:11 of the second period.

Junior Michael-Lee Teslak replaced Nolan in the Michigan Tech net at 12:31 of the period.

SCSU picked up its third goal of the evening at 15:15 of the final period off a loose puck in front of the net. Junior Michael Olson scored his third goal of the season on assists by senior Marty Mjelleli and freshman Nick Oslund.

Sophomore Jase Weslosky (13-10-0) made 37 saves in the St. Cloud shutout.

Nolan (6-9-1) gave up two goals and made 16 saves in 32 minutes of work in the loss.

Teslak also gave up one goal and made 14 saves for Tech.

St. Cloud (16-13-3, 11-11-2) finished 1-5 on the power play and Tech (11-16-5, 7-13-4) was 0-4.
