ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Michigan Tech junior
Bennett Royer scored the first goal of the game but No. 15 St. Cloud State answered with the next five to earn a 5-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win at the National Hockey Center Saturday (Jan. 9).
Michigan Tech (3-18-0, 2-13-0) finished with a 31-24 advantage in shots over St. Cloud State (12-7-3, 9-5-2).
Senior Malcolm Gwillam and sophomore
Brett Olson made a pair of passes to set Royer up on the post for his first goal of the season at 10:07 of the first period.
SCSU scored on it’s first power play of the evening after Garrett Roe sent a slap shot from the slot through traffic at 12:57 of the first period.
Senior Garrett Raboin scored two of St. Cloud’s final four goals. Raboin finished the evening with three points (two goals, one assist).
Freshman
Kevin Genoe (2-12-0) finished the night with 19 saves on 24 shots.
St. Cloud freshman Mike Lee (5-5-3) made 30 saves while giving up one goal.
Tech will host Upper Peninsula rival Northern Michigan in it’s first of seven games at home Tuesday (Jan. 12) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
