TIFFIN, Ohio — Michigan Tech drained 16-of-28 3-pointers en route to a 90-73 GLIAC men’s basketball victory at Tiffin today. Matt Gaedke (25 points) and Tyler Molesworth (23) both notched career highs to help the Huskies improve to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Tech turned in its highest scoring output since 2005 by shooting 57 percent from the 3-point line and making 22-of-32 free throws.

The first half was the Huskies’ best offensive performance of the season. Gaedke drained five 3-pointers and Molesworth had four more in exploiting the Tiffin zone defense. They only led by two at the break, however. The Dragons shot 67 percent from the floor and remained within 48-46.

Tech turned the two-point halftime lead into a 10-point advantage in the first four minutes of the second half as Molesworth hit two 3-pointers and Mike Hojnacki added another. The margin was as many as 20 never less than nine the rest of the way. The Huskies went to the foul line 27 times in the final 20 minutes and cashed in on 19 of those attempts.

“It was an awesome performance,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “TU shot extremely well in the first half, and our defense was able to slow them down in the second half.

“We obviously shot the ball well, but the biggest key was rebounding.  The players took in upon themselves to work harder on the boards, and it paid off.”

Gaedke went 9-of-13 from the field including 7-of-9 from long range to shatter his previous career high of 10. He also turned in seven assists with just two turnovers. Molesworth knocked down 6-of-9 triples and 8-of-12 overall for his second career 20-point game. He added nine rebounds.

Hojnacki posted his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Tiffin, which cooled off considerably in the second half, finished the game at 48 percent from the field.

Tech shot 46 percent from the floor and held a 41-27 rebounding advantage in the game.

Michigan Tech will return to action next Thursday (Jan. 14) with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff vs. Hillsdale at the SDC Gym.

Notes: Tech’s last 90-point game came Jan. 8, 2005, in a 91-86 win over Hillsdale … Molesworth’s other 20-point game came in the season opener when he had 20 vs. Minnesota Duluth.
