GAEDKE STEPPING UP HIS GAME Sophomore Matt Gaedke recorded a combined 31 points and eight rebounds in two games last week. He shot 11-of-21 from the field including 5-of-11 from 3-point range on the week to raise his season scoring average to 6.2. Gaedke has scored 18.7 points per game over the last three games after averaging 3.1 over the first 12 contests of 2009-10.
HAIDAR HAVING STRONG FRESHMAN SEASON Ali Haidar is turning in one of the finest freshman seasons by a Husky in recent history. The 6-7 forward is currently averaging 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. The last Tech freshmen to score more were Josh Buettner and Jason Marcotte in 2001-02. The last rookies to have a better rebound average were Matt Cameron and J.T. Luginski in 1999-2000. Haidar collected his second career double-double last Thursday (Jan. 14) vs. Hillsdale with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY VS. SAGINAW VALLEY AND LAKE SUPERIOR Michigan Tech and Saginaw Valley State are deadlocked at 33 in their all-time series. The Cardinals have won three straight in the series after the Huskies had won 16 of the previous 17 matchups. Against Lake Superior State, Tech trails in the series 48-46. The teams split a year ago, with the road team winning each time. See page 4 for complete series history.
HOJNACKI HITS THE BOARDS Sophomore Mike Hojnacki has pulled down 26 rebounds over the last three games for an 8.7 average. The 6-7 forward had averaged just 4.5 over the first 12 games of the season. Hojnacki leads Tech in scoring at 10.9 points per game.
QUICK HITS Tech ranks second in the GLIAC in 3-point percentage with a 37.5 mark … The Huskies win vs. Hillsdale last Thursday (Jan. 14) was their first home win of the season and snapped a nine-game home skid … T.J. Brown returned to the lineup vs. Findlay after missing the previous four games with injury.
HEAD COACH KEVIN LUKE Kevin Luke is in his 16th year on the Michigan Tech bench as head coach. The school’s winningest skipper owns a career record of 278-173 (.617 winning percentage). He is a four-time GLIAC Coach of the Year and was the 2002-03 NABC National Coach of the Year.
