KENOSHA, Wis. — A 20-2 run by Lewis to end the game spelled doom for the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team tonight in their final game of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. The Huskies battled back from a 12-point second half deficit to tie the game at 50 before the Flyers came away with a 70-52 triumph.

Tim Strom opened the game with an extremely hot hand. The 6-7 junior forward scored 18 points in the first 11 minutes of the game to help Tech lead by as many as eight in the first half. Lewis switched to a zone defense and closed the opening 20 minutes with a 17-5 run for a 36-32 advantage at the break.

Tech, which shot 50 percent in the opening half, struggled to hit open shots against the zone in the second half. The Huskies went four minutes before Don Fowler scored five straight points cut into LU’s 12-point margin. Kris Alper’s first points of the game with 10:11 to play tied the score at 50. Tech then made only 1-of-17 field goals the rest of the way.

Strom finished with 21 points for the second straight game. Fowler was the team’s next-highest scorer with seven points.

Lewis held a 37-26 edge in rebounds and converted 17 Tech turnovers into 23 points. The Flyers shot 47 percent from the floor compared to 34 percent for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech (0-2) will return to action with a pair of games at Duluth, Minn., next weekend. The Huskies face Minnesota Duluth at 9 p.m. (ET) on Friday (Nov. 23).
