SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Michigan Tech limited Lewis to nine field goals and 18 percent shooting from the field en route to a 69-30 non-conference women’s basketball victory tonight in day two of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. The Huskies improved to 2-0 overall, and head coach John Barnes claimed his 100th career victory with the win.

The margin remained single digits until the 2:06 mark of the first half when Sarah Stream knocked down a 3-pointer. Tech finished the half on a 10-1 run for a 28-14 lead at the break.

Danae Danen had the hot hand to open the second stanza. She tallied eight points during a 14-0 Huskies’ run through the first five minutes of the half. Freshman Lindsey Lindstrom came in and scored 14 points in the second half as the margin continued to grow to the final spread of 39.

“We defended really well,” said Barnes, who is the third Tech women’s basketball coach to reach the 100-win milestone. “I was proud of how we came out in the second half and kept control of the game. Danae and Lindsey both had great games, and it’s exciting to see different players step up for us.”

Danen closed the contest with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds. Lindstrom posted 14 points and a game-high eight boards. All 12 available players saw considerable action, and all scored except senior Alicia Schneider who posted six rebounds and four assists.

Tech held a 51-26 rebounding margin and a 45-18 advantage in field goal percentage.

Michigan Tech will return to action Saturday (Nov. 22) when it travels to Minnesota State Moorhead for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
