ASHLAND, Ohio — Michigan Tech shot 57 percent from the field and
Katie Wysocky was three assists away from a triple double in an 88-65 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball victory at Ashland today. The Huskies’ received 37 points from its bench to improve to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in league play.
Tech built up a 38-28 lead by halftime thanks to 15 points from Wysocky. The Huskies blew the game open early in the second half with a 15-2 run. Junior
Lisa Staehlin had seven points, and
Tara Ferris and
Lindsey Lindstrom each buried a 3-pointer during the spurt. The margin grew to as many as 29 before the final gap of 23.
“We shot the ball really well,” said head coach. “They were really clogging up the middle with their zone defense, and we were able to take advantage by making open shots.
“Katie (Wysocky) was really aggressive today, and it paid off for her.”
Wysocky tallied 23 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven assists in the game. She was 9-of-11 from the field to improve on her already GLIAC-leading field goal percentage.
Staehlin led Tech’s efforts off the bench with 13 points. She did not miss on field field goal attempts or three three throws. Four other players had at least eight points and 12 of the 14 available players scored at least two. Ferris notched a career high with seven assists.
Tech made 33-of-58 field goals for 57 percent including a 12-of-28 mark (43 percent) from 3-point range. The Black and Gold also made all 10 of their free throws.
Ashland shot 45 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 35-23.
Michigan Tech will travel to Tiffin for another GLIAC road game Saturday (Jan. 9). Tipoff between the Huskies and Dragons is set for 1 p.m.
