HOUGHTON, Mich. — The No. 5-ranked Michigan Tech women’s basketball team defeated GLIAC South Division leader Findlay 82-70 today as senior Katie Zimmerman reached two milestones. The 5-6 guard drained 7-of-10 from behind the arc to set Tech’s single-game 3-pointers made record and tallied her 1,000th career point in the process.

Zimmerman and senior Katie Wysocky combined for 45 of the team’s 82 points to help the Huskies improve to 14-1 overall and 9-1 in league play. UF fell to 12-3 and 7-3, respectively.

Tech used a 13-0 run to go from being down by two points to up 35-24 with 4:15 left in the half. Wysocky scored seven points during the run and Zimmerman added six including her 1,000th point on a 3-pointer at the 6:06 mark. UF answered with a 10-0 spurt before Sarah Stream made two free throws to send the hosts into halftime leading 37-34.

The Black and Gold put together a 9-0 run early in the second half to push the margin back to double digits. The closest UF would come in the final 10 minutes was 10 with a minute to play.

“We came out with intensity and desire today,” said head coach John Barnes. “We played very well defensively, and I’m very happy for Zim (Zimmerman).”

Zimmerman tied a career high with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Her seven treys surpassed the previous record of six she shared with three others. Zimmerman also tied a career high with six rebounds.

Wysocky posted 22 points and 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Danae Danen also scored in twin figures with 11. She also set a record, becoming Tech’s all-time leader in blocked shots with three in the game.

Tech shot 44 percent from the field and 48 percent from 3-point range. Findlay was 39 percent from the floor including 46 from three. The Huskies held a 42-35 rebounding edge.

Michigan Tech will play its next four games on the road beginning Thursday (Jan. 21) at Saginaw Valley State.

Notes: Tech now has four players on its roster with at least 1,000 career points in Wysocky (1,588), Stream (1,246), Danen (1,092) and Zimmerman (1,014) … Danen has 151 career blocks. The previous record was 148 by Carie Pejka (1988-92).
