The Michigan Tech volleyball team received the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for 2017-18, earning the honor for the sixth straight season. The Huskies had a 3.5 team grade-point average and were one of six GLIAC and one of 128 teams in NCAA Division II to receive the honor.
Michigan Tech Athletics earned bronze recognition at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) "Best Of" Awards at the organization's 27th annual convention in the nation's capital at the end of June. The bronze was awarded in the Digital Video Segment as Tech earned recognition from NACMA in the category for the second straight year.
The memorial service for Bob Olson will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19 at The Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. Olson, the original "Voice of the Huskies," passed away on March 3 in Middletown, Connecticut at the age of 87.
Michigan Tech Athletics recently promoted Chris Roy to Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations and hired Brad Isaacson as the Event Operations Manager/Athletic Equipment Supervisor. The changes came after the retirement of Dave Nordstrom.
Michigan Tech had four current and three former players at NHL Development Camps over the last month. Jake Jackson attended San Jose camp for the fifth time while Thomas Beretta (Toronto), Jake Lucchini (Pittsburgh), and Cooper Watson (Dallas) were invites. Former defenseman Mark Auk signed with Minnesota Wild’s AHL affiliate after the 2017-18 season and is currently in St. Paul. Angus Redmond (Anaheim) and Mitch Reinke (St. Louis) were with the teams they signed with.
The Michigan Tech hockey team will play Bemidji State outdoors on January 18 as part of the 13th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota presented by Wells Fargo. FOX Sports North, in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Hockey, and the Bemidji Organizing Committee made the announcement on July 1.
Former Michigan Tech hockey captain Cliff Watson won the ECHL Kelly Cup with the Colorado Eagles on June 9. The Eagles defeated the Florida Everblades 3-2 at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida in Game 7 to win their second straight Kelly Cup.
