Romback Scores 21 in Tech Win at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Phil Romback scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Michigan Tech men's basketball team to a 75-55 GLIAC win at Tiffin Saturday (Dec. 15). The win was the 850th for the basketball program.

"Tiffin is a pretty athletic club, but we were pretty solid. We controlled them with our defense," said head coach Kevin Luke. "Phil stepped up today with his three-point shooting. He did a nice job."

The Huskies took control of the game early behind some strong 3-point shooting. The team made eight 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes, including four by the hand of Phil Romback. The Huskies shot 58-percent from both the field (14-24) and from behind the arc (8-14).

The Huskies did a good job defensively holding the Dragons to only 18 points in the first half. TU shot 29-percent from the field and did not have a single 3-pointer.

Phil Romback opened the second with a 3-pointer just 12 seconds in. He would make another later in the half to finish with six of the team's 10 3-pointers.

The Huskies narrowly out-scored the Dragons 38-37 over the final 20 minutes and would hold a lead of 33 points with 10 minutes remaining. 13 different players saw game time for Tech.

Junior Alex Culy ended the game with 13 points thanks to three 3-pointers. Junior Austin Armga chipped in 12, and senior Ali Haidar finished with 11. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

Joe Graessle scored 25 points for TU to lead all scorers and would make the only 3-pointer for the Dragons.

Tech (7-2, 5-1), who is currently riding a four game winning streak, will play a non-conference game at UW-Parkside Dec. 29th.
