Nordic Ski Announces Roller-Ski Time Trial Event

Nordic Ski Announces Roller-Ski Time Trial Event

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Nordic ski team has announced a roller-ski time trial event to honor the induction of Kristina Owen into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

The Husky Nordic ski program will host a roller-ski time trial on October 13 at 9:30 a.m. Race registration and bib pickup will go from 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. in the parking lot across from McLain State Park, and is free for all participants. The race will start at Bear Lake Road, travel through Highway 203, and conclude at the Lakeview Cemetery.

A Michigan Tech athlete from 2002-2007, Owen was a decorated member of the Nordic ski program. Owen was a three-time NCAA All-American (2005-07), an NCAA Central Region Champion (2006), and a Junior National Champion (2004). Owen was also awarded the Terry Wilson Award for Outstanding Freshman Athlete (2001) and the Raymond L. Smith Award for Outstanding Senior Athlete (2007), and represented the United States at the U23 World Championships (2006).

Owen was also an accomplished member of the cross country and track & field teams. Owen qualified as an individual for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in 2003, and set school records in the 5k and 10k events while running for the Michigan Tech track & field program.

Owen and the rest of the Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be honored on Saturday (Oct. 13) at halftime of the football game against Wayne State and again on Saturday during the first intermission of the hockey season-opener against Minnesota Duluth.
