ASHLAND, Ohio – The Michigan Tech men's and women's track & field teams are making final preparations for the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships this week at Ashland University. The festivities begin on Wednesday with meet events scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
The Huskies enter the GLIAC Championships after competing last weekend at the Gina Relays and the St. Norbert Quad. The Tech men have a pair of first place team finishes this season, claiming the top spot at the St. Norbert Twilight on March 29th and the Hillsdale Invitational on April 7th. The Tech women finished second as a team at both of those meets as well.
Liz Bloch, was named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week this week and enters the championships as an NCAA provisional qualifier in both the 1500 Meter Run and 800 Meter Run this season. She ranks 20th nationally in the 800 and is 23rd in the nation in the 1500. At the GLIAC level, Bloch boasts a ranking of second in the 800 and is third in the 1500.
There are 11 GLIAC teams competing this week in Ashland, Ohio. Grand Valley State is the defending women's champion while host Ashland University was the 2017 men's champion.
