Hoyt Scores 1,000 Points

Hoyt Scores 1,000 Points

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Senior point guard Sam Hoyt joined an elite club of Michigan Tech women basketball players as she became the 21st player in women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark.

"I'm so proud of Sam and her accomplishment," said head coach Kim Cameron. "She does so much for this team along with her scoring, her leadership, poise and ability to handle all game situations is truly phenomenal. She will forever be recognized as one of the top point guards in Michigan Tech history. She makes everyone on her team better. We are thrilled at where she stands currently and can't wait to see where she ends up as she continues to grow in her senior year."

The Arkansaw, Wis., native currently has 1,050 points for the Huskies. Hoyt, a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Div. II All-American Honorable Mention Selection as a junior, is averaging 10.3 points during her 102 game career. She has an 88-14 record (86-percent winning percentage) during her career in a Tech uniform that includes an NCAA Div. II runner-up finish.

Hoyt's scoring average has increased steadily over her career. She averaged 3.3 points as a freshman, 11.9 points as a sophomore, 15.7 points as a junior and is averaging 14.2 this season.

Hoyt is the only player, man or woman, to record a triple-double in school history when she tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Concordia-St. Paul.

Hoyt excels in the classroom as well carrying a 3.94 grade point average in mathematics secondary education.
