Hudak Selected for GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. – Junior goalkeeper Kirsen Hudak of the Michigan Tech soccer team has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in a pair of key victories for the Huskies over the weekend.

Hudak, a native of Racine, Wisconsin, added nine more saves to her 2016 totals while notching her fifth shutout of the season, running her overall record to 8-2-1 on the season. Hudak turned away eight shots to preserve a 2-1 win at Saginaw Valley State Friday followed by one save on Sunday at Northwood in a 3-0 result. On the season, Hudak has 56 saves compared to only seven goals allowed while her goals against average of 0.62 ranks second in the GLIAC. She is also tied for second in the conference in total wins and shutouts.

The Huskies are 3-0-1 over their last four matches and have moved into a tie for second place in the GLIAC standings with Ashland. Michigan Tech is currently 8-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the GLIAC, going into conference competition this weekend at Lake Erie College and Walsh University. The Huskies will return home after this weekend and host the final three regular season games at Sherman Field.

Friday's kickoff at Lake Erie is slated for 2 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start time at Walsh on Sunday afternoon.
