HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech succeeded at the top of the lineup but struggled at the bottom in a 6-3 GLIAC women's tennis loss to Grand Valley State at Gates Tennis Center today. The visiting Lakers improved to 6-1 overall and 6-1 in league play while the Huskies fell to 6-5 overall and 3-5 in GLIAC action.
Tech's three team points came at No. 1 doubles and Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Natalia Lebedeva was involved in two of those three wins. She paired with Dunja Imran Al-Sous for an 8-4 victory in doubles. She then turned in a convincing 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Kwang Suthijindawong continued her perfect singles season with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Grand Valley State won all the other flights in straight sets. The closest of those was at No. 3 singles, where Lexi Rice defeated Kira Eck 6-4, 6-3.
Michigan Tech, which won its first six matches of the season, will try to stop a five-match skid with three matches next weekend. The first of the three is at Hillsdale Friday (Oct. 5) at 4 p.m.
