HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech cross country teams are hosting their annual 5K fundraiser this fall, Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Michigan Tech Trails. This race is cross country's major fundraising event of the year and proceeds will benefit the Tech men's and women's cross country teams. Register now, or before Oct. 26 for a discounted rate.
The 5K trail race will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. There will be an award for best costume and door prizes at the race finish. Top male and female finishers overall and top three in each age group will also receive awards. Souvenirs will also be guaranteed for the first 50 registrants. You can choose the option to register as an individual or put together a team on the registration form. There is a minimum of five runners/team and a maximum of 10 runners/team. Race-day registration is available, but you must arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. to be eligible to race.
For the 2017 season the cross country teams have a combined total of 67 student-athletes. They have four races remaining to compete in this fall and are off to a great start. Junior, Matt Pahl was recognized as Athlete of the Week by the GLIAC for his performance at the Roy Griak Invitational. Pahl led the Huskies pack in 15th place in the 8K competition. Emily Byrd also had an impressive fifth place finish with a time of 17 minutes and 56.1 seconds at the Huskies' first race, the Godfrey Opener.
