The hockey team split its WCHA series with No. 10 Bowling Green from the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies shutout the Falcons 2-0 Friday with goals from Gavin Gould and Justin Misiak and 27 saves by Robbie Beydoun. Tech battled back from a 2-0 deficit Saturday, but BGSU took its lead back midway through the third period and held on 3-2. Tyler Rockwell and Thomas Beretta scored in Game 2. Tech is 11-11-2 overall and 10-5-1-1 in the WCHA. The Huskies travel to Bemidji State this weekend. Friday's game will be played outdoors at 8:07 p.m. as part of the annual Hockey Day in Minnesota celebration. The two teams will wrap up the series inside the Sanford Center Saturday at 8:37 p.m.
The Huskies swept their weekend at home against GLIAC North Division opponents, winning in commanding fashion in both games. Tech defeated Ferris State 72-37 Thursday and Lake Superior State 67-40 Saturday. Every Husky scored in both games. Abbie Botz averaged a double-double with 12.5 points and 11 rebounds. Cassidy Trotter (12) and Hannah Hobson (12) were also in double figures. Tech is 10-6 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC and hosts No. 9 Grand Valley State (Thursday) and Davenport (Saturday) at the SDC Gym this weekend.
Tech split its two games over the weekend at the SDC Gym. The Huskies took down defending National Champion Ferris State 64-61 Thursday. Tech fell 75-67 to Lake Superior State Saturday. Dawson Bilski averaged 21 points and nine rebounds on the weekend while shooting 58 percent from the floor. Owen White (14) and Jake Witt (10) also averaged double figures, while Trent Bell pulled down nine rebounds per game and scored 7.5 points. The Huskies (8-7, 3-5 GLIAC) host Grand Valley State (Thursday) and Davenport (Saturday) at the SDC Gym.
The Huskies wrapped up the 2019 US Cross Country Skiing Championships last week. Sarah Goble (28th) and Amanda Kautzer (39th) had top 40 finishes in the 20K freestyle on Monday. Reid Goble and Patrick Acton finished second and third in Tuesday's freestyle sprint final on the men's side, while Oda Hovland narrowly missed out on racing in the women's freestyle sprint final. Tech will hit the trails again at the UW-Green Bay Invitational on January 26-27 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
